After the Golden Eaglets walloped Brazil 3-0 in the quarter finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup, Chile 2015, on Sunday, excited Nigerians had demanded to know the nation’s next opponents.
However, with the conclusion of the quarter-final round on Monday, the Emmanuel Amuneke-tutored side will now face Mexico in the semi-final stage of the competition on Thursday.
Two-time U-17 World Cup winners Mexico saw off Ecuador 2-0, with goals from Claudio Zamudio and Bryan Salazar.
While Zamudio scored the opener in the 41st minute, Salazar kept his cool to convert a 55th minute penalty.
Four-time and record winners Nigeria will be meeting a familiar foe in Mexico, having defeated them in the group stage and final game of the last edition of the competition in the United Arab Emirates.
While the group stage ended 6-1 in favour of the Eaglets, the final game was won with a slimmer margin of 3-0.
