Prince Harry and his American fiancee Meghan Markle visited the Welsh capital of Cardiff on Thursday, where they were given a Celtic love spoon by two children – named Harry and Megan.
The Kensington Palace, the office of Harry and his older brother, Prince William, tweeted a photograph of the carved wooden spoon, which features a Celtic knot.
It said Harry and Markle were “presented with a traditional Celtic love spoon by local children, named Harry and Megan,” before a private tour of Cardiff Castle.
“A real modern day fairy story inside a genuine fairy tale castle,” Cardiff Castle said on Twitter.
The couple met local musicians, poets and leading Welsh sports personalities, Kensington Palace said.
Hundreds of people gathered outside the castle to welcome them.
Many children waved Welsh flags, which feature a winged red dragon on a green and white background.
Markle was wearing trousers made by the Welsh-based Hiut Denim Company, according to the BBC and other media.
The broadcaster said Harry joked that Markle would “only hear the best singing in Wales,” suggesting that Welsh rugby fans at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium sang “in tune, which you can’t say for most football stadiums.”
Harry, 33, and U.S actress Markle, 36, announced their engagement in late November.
They plan to marry on May 19 in a chapel at Windsor Castle, a royal residence west of London. (dpa/NAN)
