Chevron Nigeria Ltd has received an award for its Sustained Support for Small Businesses in Nigeria.
Esimaje Brikinn, a Chevron spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday that the company received the award during the 4th edition of the Sub-Sahara Africa Upstream Oil and Gas Summit in Abuja.
According to him, the event, organised by Zenith Professional Training Ltd, was attended by stakeholders in the oil industry as well as representatives of communities from Niger Delta region.
Brikinn said that the company applied Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) in extending available business opportunities to local community contractors around its areas of operation.
He said that the company’s General Manager, Nigerian Content Development (NCD), Ms Anike Odunlami, received the award on behalf of Chevron Nigeria.
Receiving the award, Odunlami said that Chevron was committed to NCD to enhance local capacity building in the oil and gas industry by empowering Nigerian service providers.
Odunlami said that Chevron also empowered suppliers through human, business capacity development, local patronage, work scope reservation, and fostering of business partnerships.
She said that the company consistently reserved significant portions of job scopes to benefit local community contractors from its areas of operation.
According to her, the company also has a strong focus on maintaining compliance in job awards to Nigerian contractors on its small, medium and major capital projects.
She said the company was able to achieve this through a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure equitable participation of community contractors, through its robust Local Community Content policy. (NAN)
