Despite only being two points off Premier League leaders Arsenal after 22 matches, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho doesn’t think the team will win the title this season.
head of the Blues’ league clash with West Ham United on Wednesday the 51-year-old has given his opinion on where the west London club are heading this term.
“I think you have to drink Champagne because we are improving,” Mourinho was quoted by theTelegraph, as the Portuguese coach drank bubbly with journalists in the press conference.
“We are improving a lot, the team, the players. So the perspective of Champagne in the future is good. We are going in a good direction.
“But this season? I don’t think so.”
Mourinho is renowned for mind games, particularly when things are tight in the division and many will simply see this as tactics from the boss to try and distract his rivals.
Of the three teams currently challenging for top spot in the table, Chelsea have the most likliness of winning as they are on a seven game winning streak and host a struggling Hammers side.
The Gunners and second-placed Manchester City meanwhile face potentially tricky away trips to Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Therefore a win for the Blues could see them jump to the summit in the English top tier if their rivals fail to do the same in their matches.
