Chelsea have signed Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis, pending a medical and the Brazilian agreeing personal terms with the club.
The Atleti official website has confirmed that after asking to join the Blues at the end of last season a fee has been agreed between the two parties for the 28-year-old.
Filipe becomes the second signing from the Vicente Calderon Stadium in a matter of days, with striker Diego Costa completing his £32m switch on Tuesday.
The Brazil international played a key role in Atletico’s successful 2013/14 campaign, in which Diego Simeone’s men won La Liga and reached their first ever Champions League final.
In fact the Spaniards eliminated the West Londoners on the way to that showdown in Lisbon, where they eventually lost to city rivals Real Madrid 4-1.
Filipe will be in good company at Stamford Bridge as along with Costa, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has returned to his parent club after three years on-loan in the Spanish capital alongside the defender.
The South American joined Atleti from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2010, going onto win the European Super Cup, Copa del Rey, Europa League and La Liga with the club.
He will now be expected to replace Ashley Cole in West London, with the 33-year-old having moved to AS Roma following eight years of success with the Blues.
Filipe is likely to be competing with Cesar Azpilicueta for a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI, although the latter can also play at right-back and therefore both may be utilised at the same time.
