Chelsea FC are expected to announce the signing of free-agent Marco Amelia today.
The Italian goalkeeper who had his medical on Thursday is expected to provide cover for Asmir Begovic, who is standing in for injured first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian is out injured with a serious knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action for at least two more months, having spent over a month on the sidelines already.
The 33-year-old Amelia has at one time or the other played for Italian sides Livorno, Palermo, Genoa, AC Milan and Perugia.
He left the Serie B-side Perugia at the end of the summer and is without a club at the moment.
Chelsea currently sit on 14th place on the English Premier League table, with 8 points, out of a possible 21, from 7 games.
The club equally lost its second group game of the UEFA Champions League to FC Porto on Tuesday.
Many fans of the club blame the worst start to the team’s season since 1989 mostly on the goalkeeping department, but it is yet to be seen what good the signing of the Italian will do to revive the club’s dwindling fortunes.
