Music Maverick, Mr Charles Oputa, a.k.a “Charlyboy”, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to ensure adequate mobilisation of men and materials to enable voters register during the ongoing exercise.
Charlyboy, who is the National Coordinator of the “Ourmumudondo” Movement, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
The “Ourumudondo’’ Movement is a non-political coalition of Nigerians, advocating for national reawakening towards holding leaders responsible and ensuring good governance at all levels.
He alleged that the registration and collection centres were inadequate to cater for those willing to register and calls for the setting up of more centres across the country to further reduced the `bottleneck’.
“The registration and collection centres are not enough, even in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and other parts of the country, especially in the South.
“If INEC needs to employ more staff and create more centres, it should do that urgently and make enough time available for people to get registered,” he advised.
He explained that the group was making efforts to formally engage INEC on some inadequacies that could discourage people from going for the PVC registration and collection processes.
Charly boy said that already, the group has commenced a nation-wide campaign, to encourage Nigerians get their Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
According to him, the dream for a better leadership in Nigeria would remain elusive if citizens do not participate actively in choosing who leads them.
“The PVC is the power of the ordinary Nigerians, and they must be made to realise it.
“People should not only complain and go to sleep, waiting for things to change without participating in effecting the change they want.
“Every exceptional Nigerian youth who believes that the Nigeria of his or her dream is possible, must have a PVC to vote in the 2019 general elections,’’ he said.
The “Areafada”, as equally known by his fans, said that he decided to launch the “Get Your PVC” campaign to reverse the trend of voters’ apathy towards electioneering processes over the years.
He added that 2019 would be a ‘turning point’ in the political history of Nigeria, if the nation really wants to get it right.
He explained that all state chapters of the movement were already being mobilised to take part in the PVC awareness campaign.
“We want those who have registered to go collect their PVC and those who have not registered to go do that as well.
“Power belongs to the people and they must be made to realise that they can initiate the change they want.” (NAN)
