Veteran musician Charly Boy has sparked controversy with comments suggesting Nigerians should not take Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka seriously.
In an Instagram post, Charly Boy attributes Soyinka’s recent pronouncements and actions to a possible decline in mental faculties due to his approaching 90th birthday.
“For his age, some level of brain deterioration is not unexpected,” Charly Boy wrote. He expressed concern that “agents of desperate politicians” might be exploiting Soyinka’s “medical situation” for their own gain.
Soyinka, a fierce critic of government, has remained outspoken on social and political issues well into his later years.
