Popular television station, Channels Television has promised to investigate allegations of domestic violence levelled against one of its reporters, Mr Pius Angbo.
This was after a video emerged of Angbo’s wife, Ifeanyinwa, with what appeared to be marks of violence on her face.
The victim can be heard saying, “My name is Ifeanyinwa. I am a doctor. I have been married to Mr. Pius Angbo of Channels Television for six years and for six years I have not known peace in this marriage.
“He sleeps from one woman to another. I just had a baby (it was a caeserian section) just about four weeks ago.”
The victim alleged that her husband had normalised beating her up and the latest round of battery occurred after she advised him to “spend wisely and not spend on women, not recklessly, considering that we have four children and these children have to be trained”.
She further alleged that her husband tried to strangle her.
“He sat on my incision,” the victim added.
Ifeanyinwa further alleged that their children were crying while the “beating” lasted.
She further alleged that while she was three months pregnant, her husband sat on her stomach in another bout of domestic violence
After the video gained traction on social media on Sunday, many Nigerians called for the arrest of the reporter.
Hello @PoliceNG,
I am calling for the immediate arrest of Mr. Pius Angbo of @channelstv for physically assaulting Dr. Ifeanyinwa Angbo, a medical doctor in Owerri. This woman just had a baby 4weeks ago and she got beaten up by her reckless husband. pic.twitter.com/EFsU9SxIxq

A women’s rights campaigner and Guardian columnist, Esther Ijewere quoted Josephine Chukwuma, the Founder of Project Alert, an NGO, as saying that the victim has agreed to press charges.
The woman can also be heard saying in the video, “I thought I married a fellow human.”
