The launch of the ‘Change Begins With Me’ campaign by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was supposed to be a platform to unite both the masses and the political office holders under the umbrella of ‘change’ but it has fast changed pace.
The move by the president, especially in a time when the nation is faced with economic recession and the citizens are crying hardship quickly backfired with the citizens questioning the integrity of the Buhari-led administration.
The president had during national address on Thursday said: “The campaign principle is simple, each of us must live the change we want to see in our society.
“Before you ask, ‘where is the change they promised us,’ you must first ask, ‘how far have I changed my ways.”
The President’s speech served further to anger his countrymen who poured out on social media to express frustrations at the tone deaf approach of the president to pressing economic issues such as the decreasing value of naira, the increasing level of unemployment as more firms continue to shut down amidst other economic challenges.
Quite recently, the United Nations estimated that the country needed aid as it is faced with a ‘never-seen-before’ type of famine.
Many Nigerians including international bodies have begun to question the ways and policy of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration especially as it carries the undertone of an authoritarian approach.
