My Champions League Record Is Not A Guarantee For Man City To Succeed – Guardiola

2 Min Read

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has said that his remarkable UEFA Champions’ League will not in any way guarantee The Citizens to succeed in Europe’s elite competition this season.

It is on record that the 45-year-old Spaniard during his stints as Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach in seven years has never failed to progress to the semi-finals.

He however has led City to progress to this season’s knockout stages with a game to spare and will finish second in Group C, thus eliminating the opportunity to play against his former side, Bayern when the draw for the knockout stage is made on 12 December.

According to him, the competition looks like it’s easy but cautioned that everything can be so complicated.

As it stands now, City are poised to meet Italian giants, Juventus and German side, Borussia Dortmund. French side Monaco who finished top of the group from which Tottenham were sent packing from Europe are another side that could be pitted against Guardiola’s side.

It will be noted here that Manchester City against all odds reached the semi-finals last season, having never previously gone past the last-16 stage, a fact Guardiola acknowledged. He said it was an achievement for them considering the avalanche of top teams in Europe.

He further highlighted that reaching the quarter-finals is not normal and should be considered exceptional if a team reaches semi-finals.
