Men of the Nigerian Police have arrested one Umar Abubakar believed to be the criminal mastermind and 10th member of the gang responsible for the kidnap of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor’s wife, Margaret Emefiele in September, 2016.
The arrested mastermind, Abubakar, also known as Kiriwa was according to the Police arrested by the IG Intelligence Response Team on December 9, 2016 in Minna, the Niger state capital.
Speaking on the arrest, the Force’s spokesman, Donald Awunah on Monday disclosed that the suspect confessed to the crime and also revealed that he invested the proceed from the kidnap, the sum of N3million, into a store.
The statement issued by the Force’s spokesman said: “Abubakar led detectives to two houses and three plots of land he purchased with his share of the ransom.
“He confessed that he used N3m, part of the ransom, to open a provision shop in Minna, Niger State which he was running with his wife. The original papers of the houses and plots of land have been recovered and the shop also sealed.”
