The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cautioned bank customers against disclosing their Debit (ATM) Card details to fraudsters who send out fake SMS messages.
This is contained in a statement made available to Newsmen by the acting Director of Communications, CBN, Mr Isaac Okorafor on Thursday in Abuja.
The statement warned customers not to reply text messages from individuals pretending to be Customer Care representatives of the CBN, asking for Personal Identification Numbers or Bank Verification Numbers.
“Those messages and calls are intended to lure bank account holders to reveal their personal details which the fraudsters could use to defraud them.
“The public is therefore warned that neither the CBN, deposit money banks nor their employees or agents would ever call bank customers or send email, text messages requesting for passwords or cards’ details.
“Bank customers are therefore advised to personally visit their banks for any issue requiring disclosure of personal bank details,” it stated (NAN)
