Niger Delta activist Ankio Briggs has condemned the Federal Government’s proposed establishment of cattle colonies stating that the people of the Niger Delta would not allow such to happen in their territory .
In her opinion such a move was uncalled for as the people of the region had not recovered from the crisis caused by oil exploitation by the Federal Government. The initiative according to her was capable of inciting further unrest in the troubled Niger Delta region.
“The sound of cattle colonies in itself is provocative. What is the meaning of cattle colonies.” she asked.
She advised the Federal Government to find other solutions for the herdsmen nationwide to manage their cattle business as there was no room for any herdsmen in the region.
“There is nothing that should be given to any businessman. Whether he is a herdsman or a Fulani man. How many fishermen do you see going to the North to go and claim rivers?” she queried.
Briggs concluded her agitation over the issue by insisting the herdsmen owned private businesses and as such were not welcome in the Niger Delta.
