Businessman in Court Over Alleged N3.9m Cashew Nuts Fraud

A 43-year-old businessman, Gbenga Omotayo, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a man of N3.9 million worth of cashew nuts.

 

The defendant, who resides at 48 Enitan St., Surulere, was charged with conspiracy, fraud and cheating, offences he denied committing.

 

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on May 9, 2019, at Flower Mills, Magboro, Lagos.

 

Akeem alleged that the complainant, Mr Joshua Oshowo, supplied cashew nuts valued at N3. 9million to the defendant for sale and to remit the proceeds Oshowo.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant failed to fulfil his promise.

 

“Hence, the case was reported at the police station,” he said.

 

The offences according to the prosecutor contravened Sections 314, 323 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2015.

 

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Layinka admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Layinka, adjourned the case until Feb.10 for mention.
