The Nigerian Bar Association has said that the Federal Government’s fight against corruption should be in line with the rule of law.
President of the NBA, Mr Augustine Alegeh, SAN, who spoke, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the opening of the annual conference of the body, said that if the fight against corruption was outside the ambit of the law, such action amounted to corruption itself.
Alegeh also chided the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for having 136 inconclusive elections across the country within the last one year.
“We restate our commitment to zero tolerance to corruption as lawyers. We recognise that our country is stagnated by corruption
“The war against corruption must be fought within the ambits of the law. Any attempt to fight corruption through other means is corruption itself.
“The NBA will join the fight against corruption within the ambits of the law.
“If the fight against corruption is to take what was unlawfully acquired by one man and give it to another, count us out,” he warned.
