President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Revd. Samson Ayokunle has described most Nigerian leaders as “embezzlers and rogues” and blamed them for the nation’s economic woes.
He stated this Thursday during a thanksgiving service organised to honour new Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev Dr Yakubu Pam.
The service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
Ayokunle said that most of the leaders were untrustworthy and could not be trusted to honestly handle resources.
The CAN President added that the menace of bad and untrustworthy leadership was not limited to the political space, noting that many organisations had folded up because of it.
“One of the things killing our nation Nigeria today is the scarcity of trustworthy leaders. The nation is crawling because some, if not many of those in leadership are untrustworthy.
“They are embezzlers and rogues. You cannot commit any resource into their hands and expect good returns.
“Many companies in this country had shut down because of unfaithful managers and workers. Our country is in great danger because of this,” Ayokunle said.
The CAN President said that Nigeria was in dire need of trustworthy leaders.
“A humble leader would always appreciate the contributions of others.
“This appreciation is the reinforcement you would give them to do better in the subsequent assignment. Jesus washed his disciples feet. In your humble leadership, serve with your team and take good care of their welfare as Jesus did,” he charged the nation’s leaders.
