Authorities on Monday said 33 people died in a warehouse fire in Oakland, California, a media report said.
Alameda County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ray Kelly said some of the victims were foreign nationals from Europe and Asia.
He did not say what countries the victims were from, but said some of them were teenagers.
“Investigators were working through diplomatic channels to identify them and inform their loved ones.
“Only about 40 per cent of the building had been searched,’’ he said at a news conference.
Kelly said he had no idea how many more bodies might be found.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said the scope of the tragedy was “tremendous.” (dpa/NAN)
