Video footage captured shows a cab man, Prabhu Bhatara, in India died on Wednesday, after being mauled to death by what is believed to be a sloth bear when stopped his cab to take a selfie.
The incident occurred near Papadahandi in Nabarangpur district of Odisha, India.
The luckless Cabby was had come from a wedding and was on his way home, he got out of the SUV to use the toilet and spotted the injured bear.
While he approached the animal, passengers in the car warned him about getting close to the bear, but he ended up getting too close and was attacked by the animal.
A stray dog tried to fight with the bear but was unable to save the man. Shocked onlookers attempted to scare the bear away by hitting it and throwing objects at it, but that only seemed to enrage it more.
Forest officials arrived at the scene and eventually tranquilised the bear so that they could get to his body.
Local reports said that the bear was trying to drink water from a pond when Mr Bhatara approached.
In the video Mr Bhatara can be seen trying to escape from the bear, believed to be a sloth bear, but it delivers several powerful blows to his head and neck.
Forest ranger Dhanurjaya Mohapatra said: ‘Bhatara died on the spot. The bear is being treated for its injuries.
