African music sensation and self-proclaimed “Odogwu,” Burna Boy, has made a shocking revelation about his musical journey.
In an exclusive interview with The Breakfast Club, the artist disclosed that he didn’t draw inspiration or influence from any African artist while growing as an artist.
According to Burna Boy, his inspiration came from the likes of DMX, Naughty By Nature, and other foreign artists. He noted that there was no African artist to draw inspiration from, and that’s why he had to look beyond the continent for inspiration.

During the interview, Burna Boy was asked how he knew from the age of 10 that he wanted to be an artist. He explained that music was the only thing he was consistently good at, and he couldn’t see himself doing anything else.
He also revealed that most of his music was inspired by life experiences and other artists that he watched. Burna Boy stated that he started growing up and had to be more in tune with who he was and his reality as an African man.
