Buratai meets top Army commanders over insecurity

2 Min Read

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has summoned a meeting with the top hierarchy of the force.

The meeting which is holding at the Army Headquarters in Abuja is believed to be in connection with insecurity in the country.

Present at the meeting are General Officers Commanding of all the divisions of the Nigerian Army, commanders of the various army operations, unit commanders, commander of the Guards Brigade, and other top officers.

The meeting was said to have started around 10:30 am.

There has been wanton destruction of public and private property across the nation since hoodlums hijacked peaceful EndSARS protests.

Hoodlums have besieged and looted warehouses storing COVID-19 palliatives across many states.

Some affected states are Lagos, Osun, Edo, Plateau, Cross River, Kwara, and Adamawa.

In Lagos for example, the damage to public and private property is so much that the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said N1 trillion was required for reconstruction.

The widespread looting and arson intensified after soldiers opened fire on unarmed protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos last Tuesday.

However, the Army has denied involvement in the shooting and President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation.
