Buhari’s visit: Nigerians react as Boko Haram fires rocket into Maiduguri airport

2 Min Read

Nigerians have expressed fears over the continued danger posed by insurgents in the North-East after suspected Boko Haram terrorists fired rockets into the Maiduguri International Airport, just as President Muhammadu Buhari’s plane was touching down in the Borno capital.

Peoples Gazette quoted a resident Hussaina Sadiq as saying that residents of communities close to the airport abandoned their homes as the explosions spread panic.

One person was confirmed dead as some of the rockets landed in the Ngomari airport general area and on houses in the Ajilari Cross area, SaharaReporters reported.

The presidential jet conveying President Buhari, who is on the second official visit to Borno in seven months, landed at 11:18 am.

Meanwhile, many Nigerians that reacted to the news of the rocket fire on Facebook called on the Federal Government to redouble efforts to rid the nation of insurgency which it has faced since 2009.

Sajos Yusuf Iliya wrote, “Ha! I thought Lai Mohammad said there is no Boko Haram. That it is only an attempt to reduce the present-day government? So which one is this again?”

Abdulganiu A Otuoze wrote, “So Boko boys can now lunch rocket into towns and cities… Oh my country.”

Emmy Franc Corlin wrote, “I think it’s a general salute to the GCFR as a welcome ceremony…”
