Human Rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana has said that President Buhari has turned Nigeria into a laughing stock due to his numerous medical trips.
The lawyer was on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme where he spoke on just how much the President’s trips are costing the populace.
He said that public servants should be prohibited from travelling abroad to get health care or study while Nigerian hospitals and schools continue to wallow.
He stated: “These medical trips by the President and the rich in Nigeria expose our country to ridicule because you cannot justify that a little of enormous resources cannot fix a few hospitals to the extent that everybody can be treated in Nigeria.”
He noted that unless Nigeria got to a level where citizens could receive healthcare in the country at a competent level, then the country will continue to be plagued by the suffering pervasive in it at the moment.
He stated that it was wrong for public officials to fly out to other countries to seek medical healthcare while so many in the country died due to inadequate health care facilities.
“I can even go further to say it is discriminatory and illegal for anybody to use public funds to treat himself while the majority of people are dying in public hospitals that are not maintained.”
