Buhari’s one year in office, a national rebirth – Sen. Jajere

2 Min Read

Sen. Alkali Jajere on Monday said Nigeria had recorded a national rebirth with President Muhammadu Buhari’s courageous fight against corruption and the handling of other contentious issues hitherto avoided by previous administrations.
Jajere, who represented Yobe South Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu that only a leader that had the enormous trust of his people could delved into those issues and come out unscathed.

“In the last one year, President Buhari courageously ventured into critical and daring areas, with an unprecedented fight against corruption ever seen in the history of this country, recovering mindboggling amount of stolen public funds,” he said.

The former legislator said the implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA), Bank Verification Number (BVN) and the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS) had contributed to the successful fight against corruption.

Jajere said the removal of subsidy on petrol would save more resources for government to create jobs, and develop infrastructures in all sectors of the economy.

“Already, the subsidy removal has improved supply of petrol, removed hoarding and diversion; It has also created competition among marketers,” he said.

The former legislator commended government for the renewed fight against insurgency in the North East thereby restoring peace and security in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.

“Many communities that were taken over by the insurgents have been fully liberated and the people are relocating back to these communities, with the re-establishment of civil authorities also going on in the affected areas,” he added.

He lauded President Buhari for launching N500 billion Social Intervention Fund, saying it would boost employment, as well as support artisans, vulnerable groups, market women and farmers.

Sen. Jajere appeal to the Niger Delta militants to tow the path of dialogue in fighting for their cause instead of confrontation and violence. (NAN)
