A former Special Assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has accused the Buhari Campaign Organisation of plagiarising its 2019 campaign slogan, “Next Level”.
The United States-based pastor made the claim in a series of tweets via his verified Twitter handle.
Omokri said the slogan was plagiarised from Dr Kelly M. Costner of the Winthrop University, United States.
He said, “Muhammadu Buhari spent ₦83 million promoting his #NextLevel agenda on the front pages of ALL Nigeria’s major newspapers, but forgot to tell those papers that he stole the Next Level from Associate Professor Kelly Costner.”

Not only do they plagiarise speeches (‘I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody’), @MBuhari and @OfficialAPCNg are so intellectually lazy & empty that they plagiarised #NextLevel from The Rex Institute. Can such people take you to any level? Follow @Atiku. The man with the plan! pic.twitter.com/pTOnraV1ui

A US-based Nigerian academic, Dr Farooq Kperogi, also called out the presidency for the alleged plagiarism.

Kperogi, a fierce critic of the Buhari administration, said that the presidency could be in serious trouble should Winthrop University decide to sue for alleged intellectual property right infringement.
He said, “I am teaching intellectual property rights this semester, and I can tell you that this would be a slam dunk if Winthrop University sues. I hope the Atiku campaign is reading this. Those of you who are close to them should call their attention to this.”
