The ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, has blamed the delay in holding its convention on the nation’s president, Muhammadu Buhari’s health.
The party stated that the president’s health is largely responsible for its o=inability to hold its constitutionally mandated mid-term non-elective convention.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum and Zamfara state governor, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, stated that the party is however working in line to fix the issue.
While speaking to newsmen at the end of fifth regular joint APC National Working Committee (NWC) /APC Governors’ meeting which held on Wednesday, the state governor noted that the processes leading to the programme will begin on Saturday, July 29.
He however stated when reminded of the earlier statement that the party’s leadership will meet with the Acting President after its meeting in May, “although the President is supposed to be present at the convention as leader of the party, we will still meet with the Acting President to decide on a date.”
