The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN has disclosed that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has recovered $1 billion in looted funds since coming to power in 2015.
Malami said this while briefing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
The minister said that the recovered funds have been channeled into various sectors of the economy, including poverty alleviation.
Malami explained that the government was concerned about “worrisome” issues of budget padding, adding that necessary measures were being explored to tackle it.
He further disclosed that FEC approved a new anti-corruption strategy document to strengthen the anti-graft fight in the country.
