A prominent Northern technocrat, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s confidantes to advise him to resign over the “terrifying” state of affairs under his leadership.
Baba-Ahmed said this in a tweet on Tuesday, hours after reports circulated of the killing of eight army personnel of the 7 Guards Battalion of the Presidential Guards Brigade in Abuja last Friday.
The comment also came four days after reports of the worrying state of the nation’s fiscal position surfaced, as it emerged that Nigeria’s total revenue stood at N1.63 trillion while debt servicing stood at N1.94 trillion, showing a variance of over N300 billion.
The Director, Publicity and Advocacy of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) noted that there was no indication that the nation’s fortunes would improve until the expiration of Buhari’s tenure in May 2023.
He said it was hightime the president resigned before things got worse.
“This is MY PERSONAL opinion.
“I am terrified by the state of Nigeria. I am more terrified by what it will be by May 2023. If there are people he listens to, they should ask him to consider resigning.
“Any lawful option is better than his continuing.
“Raise your voice, Nigeria.
“It’s enough,” Baba-Ahmed wrote.
