A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to ensure that Nigeria returns to the path of greatness again.
He was speaking as the guest of honour at two books presentation and the 65th birthday anniversary of Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, in Abuja yesterday.
Onu said since May 29th when President Buhari took over the nation, he set out in a new direction.
The former governor of old Abia State believed that it is important for Nigerians to remember that the generation before them broke the barrier of foreign rule to make the country free, adding that they also worked hard to set free many others in different countries of the continent.
He said: “Gradually Nigeria is undergoing a major transformation. We are in the process of rediscovering those values that made us strong in the past, which we unfortunately discarded in the immediate past. As we read our newspapers, listen to the radio and watch the television, the tone of our conversation, the theme of our discussions has changed.
“We now, more than ever before, emphasize honour, integrity and duty in the lives of both the citizens and the country. It is these values that will help us continue successfully on this new journey no matter how rough the road may be or how steep the mountain could be.
“It is these values that will help us build strong institutions that will safeguard the rule of law such that no citizen can be above the law, strengthen our democracy, build a nation of equal opportunities for all, defend human rights and protect the press, civil societies, the weak and the poor. We thank President Buhari for this.”
According to Onu, Buhari administration is a child of the supreme will of the Nigerian people, and it will not rest until it ensures that the votes count and the voter matters in the electoral process.
“Some work has been done, but a lot more needs to be done. I am confident that day in, day out, the APC led Federal Government will work in pursuit of electoral reforms in order to ensure that the vote is the manure that will enrich our soil to enable democracy blossom and flourish.
“It is the duty, the task for our generation, this generation, to build on the achievements of those before us to unite our country, secure our nation, work for peace and prosperity so as to guarantee the happiness of Nigerians. This can be achieved if we tirelessly work to ensure that the right leadership continues to govern our country.” Onu said.
