After months of speculation, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally signed the much anticipated ‘Not too young to run’ bill into law.
The President assented the bill at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja
The President’s aide on media, Bashir Ahmad took to Twitter to talk about the historic event
He tweeted: History is made, President @MBuhari has signed into law the #NotTooYoungToRun bill. Congratulations to all young men and women at @YIAGA and all the supporters of the movement.
The “Not Too Young To Run” bill will reduce the presidential age limit from 40 to 35 and, for governorship positions, from 35 to 30.
During the signing, Buhari was quoted as saying: “If you really want to change something in Nigeria, and if you can organise yourselves and work hard towards it – you can achieve it. The outcome of such efforts is this remarkable feat.”
This is a move that has been clamoured for by Nigerians for such a long time and while there was some concern that President Buhari would refuse to sign the bill for political expediency, the President has made good on the promise he made on the 29th of May 2018 when he said that he would sign the bill into law
