Buhari Seeks Help, Tell Me If I Should Change Ministers

2 Min Read
President Muhammadu Buhari

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has expressed his doubts about the trustworthiness of some of his cabinet members in delivering their services as he requested the verdict of the citizens as regards possible replacement of some of his Ministers.

Buhari yesterday when asked if Nigerians should expect possible changes in his cabinet members replied: “I am waiting for the newspapers to tell me the performance of my ministers and whether I should make changes.”

The President, explaining why his administration took off rather slowly in his first year in office blamed the pace on the lack of proper transition as each ministry heads under the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration protested his idea of a handing over note at the last minute.

Buhari continued that the last minute change in plans resulted in the slow pace as he had to take briefings from two ministries a day in order to make up for the lost time.

While Speaking on the Budget Padding issue which plagued the 2016 appropriation bill and delayed its signing into law, Buhari noted that he had never witnessed anything called Budget Padding since his introduction into the public life in 1975 until he saw the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adeoye defending his budget before the National Assembly on television.

The President said: “I went [to the National Assembly] and bowed and delivered [the budget] but I did not know that what I delivered was a shell. They removed what they wanted and added other things.”

Buhari added that his refusal to sign the budget document when it came back from the National Assembly was because he didn’t understand the content of the document.
