President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s administration has kicked off the payment of N5,000 to about one million extremely poor Nigerians as monthly payment to help them with their basic needs.
The administration through the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) Programme, started with Biometric capture and Account opening in Borno Internally Displaced Persons camps.
The programme is a part of the scheme under the Social Investment Programmes that is meant to help reduce the suffering of the masses.
Laoula Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, clarified that for the Conditional Cash Transfer funds would be paid directly to the recipients through a payment system that was being worked out.
During his campaign, President Buhari had promised to pay a monthly sum of N5,000 to one million of the country’s poorest individuals.
Akande further noted that the World Bank and the Bill Gates foundation were also cooperating with the Federal Government to develop an efficient payment system.
