Buhari Rejoices As APC Wins Guber in Bayelsa First Time in 10 Years

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed joy over the victory of APC governorship candidate, David Lyon in the just concluded governorship election which took place on Saturday.

This was disclosed in a statement made by the President on Sunday night and reported by PM News, a news agency in Nigeria in its publication on Monday, whereby the President congratulated the governor-elect on his victory.

David Lyon led the poll with six out of eight local government areas, a total large margin of 352,552 to 143,172, a victory which has occurred for the first time in 10 years.  The governor-elect also led more than half of the votes coming from Sagbama LGA, the home base of Diri’s sponsor, the current governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson.

His victory was announced by the returning officer, Prof. Faraday Orumwense, Vice-chancellor, University of Benin, at the INEC Collation Centre in Yenagoa on Sunday night.

Buhari also condemned the violence that took place during the election which resulted in the loss of lives in Bayelsa.

He said;

‘‘Violence during elections vitiates our commitment to demonstrate to the world and upcoming generation that we are a people capable of electing leaders in a peaceful and orderly manner.’’
