Buhari Is A Prophet, Predicted Re-emergence Of Polio – Health Minister

2 Min Read

Health Minister, Dr Isaac Adewole has said that President Muhammadu Buhari can be likened to a prophet for predicting the re-emergence of polio in Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Adewole said President Buhari once told him that polio will resurface in Nigeria with the number of children the country currently has.

He said: “Mr. President actually is like a prophet. He said we should expect challenges on polio when I met him. He said he knew polio will come, because these are children.

“Many of them have no access to medical treatment. But we are committed to what we are doing. With the partners we have, Nigeria will be polio free in 2017,” he said.

Adewole also said the Buhari led administration is working towards battling cancer and VVF, amongst other major killer diseases.

It will be recalled that during a meeting with the Expert Review Committee (ERC) in Abuja, Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, cited that the Federal Government is working towards complete eradication of the Polio virus in Nigeria.

He further stated that having another Polio outbreak would be very shameful to the country, and that hopefully Nigeria would be declared Polio free by 2017.

Nigeria was removed from the Polio virus endemic list in July 2015 by WHO after no new case was recorded in 15 months.

If no new Polio virus case is recorded by 2017, Nigeria would be declared a Polio virus free nation.
