The Presidency revealed on Thursday that in the last ten months, the Federal Government has not paid the salaries and allowances of former Presidents and Heads of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to media sources, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, President of Nigeria between 1979- 1983, who is ninety-one years old, has not been paid for ten months.
Also affected in the non-payment of salaries and allowances since January this year are former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo; Goodluck Jonathan; former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, rtd; General Abdulsalami Abubakar; General Yakubu Gowon and Chief Ernest Shonekan.
These were revealed to the Senators on Thursday when the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, led by Senator Tijjani Kaura (APC, Zamfara North) visited the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
