Buhari not aware of marginalisation of Igbos – Umahi

Umahi and Buhari

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, says President Muhammadu Buhari is not necessarily aware of many cases for which his administration has been accused of marginalising the South-East geopolitical zone.

He stated this as a guest on Channels Television‘s ‘Politics Today’ programme.

Asked to state if he felt that the South-East was not marginalised, Umahi said, “It is not a straight-worded thing. There are issues which I explained to the wonderful honourable Minister of Defence.

“My position is that there are certain things that happen in this country that even Mr President, even the ministers will not be aware of. When somebody from the South-East is due for promotion or a particular appointment is not appointed, how will Mr President know about it?”

According to him, many agitators for secession have hinged their agitation on the marginalisation of the zone.

However, he said, the leaders of the zone are against secession.

Umahi, who is the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, said that the governors would hold a meeting with the youths on Saturday, June 19, to know their grievances.

He said that the outcome of the meeting would be taken to the Presidency.
