President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon hosted former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The reasons for the meeting remain sketchy as at press time.
In recent times, TY Danjuma, as the elder statesman is popularly called, has been one of the vocal critics of the present administration, especially in the area of security.
The Herald recalls that the former Chief of Army Staff accused the Federal Government under Buhari and the military of backing Fulani herdsmen atrocities across the nation.
He stopped just short of calling on Nigerians to defend themselves if the security agencies and the government fail to protect them against the marauding herdsmen.
While speaking at the University of Ibadan, Danjuma flayed Yoruba leaders for keeping mute while the present administration failing to arrest the nation’s descent into chaos.
He said, “In Yorubaland, everybody seems to have lost their voice, scared. And people appear not to care about what is happening. If I tell you what I know is happening in Nigeria today, you will no longer sleep.
“If you want details, I will give it to you privately.
“We are in a big hole as a nation. And people who put us in this hole have continued today. So, we’ve to wake up. Only we can save ourselves.
“The fifth columnists’ activities going on among your people are not helping matters. May Almighty God continues to bless this country, but only we can save ourselves from ourselves.”
