The Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari has in his intensified fight against corruption in the country signed a new agreement with the United Arab Emirates, UAE, to extradite Nigerians who seek refuge in the country after committing financial crimes in the country.
The President in the new agreements bordering on Anti- Corruption, Tax Admin, and Intellectual Property Protection seeks to strengthen ties with the UAE to further bring corrupt Nigerians to book.
Dubai in UAE has mainly been recorded as one of the main regions where corrupt Nigerians flee to when accused of various crimes.
Notable amongst Nigerians who had escaped to Dubai is the former Governor of Delta state, James Ibori who recently concluded his 13 years jail term in a UK prison.
President Muhammadu Buhari through his Twitter handle wrote: “I’ve just signed Instruments of Ratification for a number of agreements covering AntiCorruption, Tax Admin & Intellectual Property Protection.
“Today’s ratification of Agreements is an important step, in line with the delivery of our Anti-Corruption & Economic Diversification Vision. I have directed all relevant Government agencies and bodies to commence immediate implementation of these Agreements.”
