The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday described the president, Muhammadu Buhari as his grandfather adding that abusing him as widely believed will be tantamount to disrespect.
The Ekiti State Governor however noted that seeing the president as his grandfather does not mean he could not correct and criticise him whenever he’s headed in the wrong direction.
Speaking as the Guest Speaker at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) World Press Freedom Day lecture held on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, the Ekiti State Governor noted that he would rather die than hide the truth.
Fayose who was speaking on the topic “Journalism and Politics : Two Sides of A Coin,” said the two things people are most afraid of is death and being locked away. He added that his criticism for the president was purely positive and constructive in order to achieve economic and political development in the country.
He said: “I don’t abuse Buhari because he is my grandfather. But we all must not sleep and face the same direction in this country. The people voted for him because they wanted change and I agreed with that because we really needed change. They told Nigerians that when they get into power there will be no subsidy and there will be no queues again but today full subsidy and queues are here.
“In the last 12 months, Nigerians have never had it so bad. Most generators have been exhausted.” The Ekiti State Governor added.
