Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that generally poor pay in the country extends to his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, and him.
The nation’s second citizen disclosed that while Buhari earned N1.75 million as monthly salary, he earned N1.5 million.
He added that many other government functionaries earned way less than his boss and him.
According to The Punch, Osinbajo made this known at the “Journalists and Retirement Plan, ” organised by the State House Press Corps at the Presidential Villa , Abuja on Monday.
He said, “Generally speaking, people are poorly paid, so there is a need to look at why people are poorly paid.
“Public sector earnings must be looked at and what should be paid and what is right for people to earn should be determined.”
He added, “Good pay should be a function of a successful media organisation when there is no cheating . Professional organisations ought to be involved in ensuring this”.
In the same vein, he urged journalists to improve their chances of earning better pay by repositioning themselves through self improvement.
