The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari would be visiting the state on Monday to condole with the people over recent herdsmen-related killings.
Recall that 73 people were killed in Guma and Logo LGAs of the state on New Year’s Day by suspected herdsmen.
Ortom made the disclosure of the president’s visit while addressing members of the state executive council of the All Progressives Congress at the party secretariat on Friday.
He said that the presidency had committed a letter intimating him about the visit.
Ortom said that the visit was sequel to Sunday’s announcement by the presidency that Buhari would be visiting some states affected by herdsmen-farmers clashes.
The states marked for visit by the president include Taraba, Benue, Zamfara, Yobe and Rivers, with the president visiting Taraba on Monday.
The governor disclosed that he would continue to ensure the implementation of the anti-open grazing law in the state despite threats to his life.
He added that many suspects had been arrested and are presently being prosecuted.
Ortom disclosed that the state had concluded plans to prosecute the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore for alleged persistent threats leading to violence in the state.
