The Presidency has denied reports that the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, chose to return to the country today because of the various protests held over his continued absence from the country.
Speaking at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the President’s Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, stated that Buhari’s return to Nigeria has nothing to do with the protests held in the country.
Recall that Nigerian singer, Charly Boy and his partners had staged the #ResumeOrResign protest some days ago against the continued absence of the president.
Speaking to newsmen, the presidential aide who had earlier revealed the plans for the president’s return said Buhari chose today to return so he can resume work and finish on the work he started.
Femi Adesina said: “The return of the President has nothing to do with the protest. It is about continuing with the work he started.”
He continued: “Some of us knew about his return some days back. Remember that the acting President held on effectively and they will continue the work together.
“We left the work of announcement with the managers of the acting President.”
