President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed former Super Eagles forward, Daniel Amokachi as his Special Assistant on Sports.
Recall that The Bull, as Amokachi was known in his playing days, was earlier in the year appointed Nigeria’s Football Ambassador.
John Akanji, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, disclosed the new appointment in a Thursday statement.
He also shared the photo (above) of Amokachi receiving his letter of appointment from the minister.
According to the statement, the appointment letter was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha and dated August 17, 2020.
“I am pleased to inform you that Mohammadu Buhari, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has approved your appointment as Special Assistant on Sports. The appointment takes effect from the 11th of August, 2020,” the statement quoted a line from the appointment letter.

Amokachi, 47, made his debut for Nigeria in 1990 after being discovered playing for Ranchers Bees by legendary Super Eagles coach, Clemens Westerhof.
He was a member of the USA ’94 team, considered the best in Nigerian football history, and was three times named the third-best player in Africa.
Amokachi is also a former assistant head coach of the Super Eagles.
