Reno Omokri, aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed President Buhari was initially scared of increasing the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and electricity tariffs.

The Herald on Wednesday reported that Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) increased the price of petrol from N136 to N151. Although, marketers have decided to sell between N158 – N162.

The increase which was announced a day after Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCOs) raised the price of electricity tariffs stirred a huge controversy among Nigerians.

Many citizens accused Buhari of being insensitive towards the plight of the masses who struggle to recover from the harsh economic impact of COVID-19 Pandemic.

However,  Reno Omokri alleged President Buhari was scared to implement the price initially.

According to Omokri’s claims, the President was emboldened by the high viewership of Big Brother Naija reality show which was a major distraction to many youths.

Jonathan’s former aide disclosed Nigerian youths were too distracted by the reality show to be concerned about government policies that would impact negatively on citizens.

Omokri who made the claims in a thread of tweets wrote:

“l was stunned to see youths organise a fundraiser for a disqualified BBNaija housemate.

“I was told that General MBuhari was afraid to raise the prices of fuel and electricity.

“What emboldened him was when he saw how BBN has completely distracted Nigeria’s youth,”
