Buba Galadima, an ally-turned-critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has not lived up to expectations as an opposition party because it is not different from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it is seeking to displace.
The Yobe State-born politician said that instead of endearing itself to Nigerians by putting the APC on its toes, the PDP has been enmeshed in crises.
Galadima noted that neither party is capable of solving Nigeria’s most pressing challenges which he identified as “disunity, insecurity, lack of opportunities, and economic development”.

Lamenting the worrisome security situation in the country, Galadima disclosed that he lost his nephew in Gashua, his hometown, to the insecurity in the nation.
The engineer-turned-politician said the APC and PDP having disappointed Nigerians, it was now the time for “good Nigerians” to step up to the plate to rescue the nation under a fresh platform.
“Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have wanted to say a word about the PDP or APC as political parties. Some of us broke away from APC with high enthusiasm to join hands with people of like minds to make a good opposition and take over the reign of power from the APC.
“We fought like a wounded lion in the 2019 general elections to assume the mantle of leadership. Still, it is my belief that we won the election, but we were denied the victory of the election.
“Elections now having been over, some of us thought that the PDP would have learned its lessons from the past and sit down to put its house together. But regrettably, they are still embroiled in crisis and, therefore, unable to act as an opposition party.
“Even when they had the opportunity to do congresses across the country, they failed to realise that impunity and lack of justice were the main reasons they lost out in the 2015 general elections.
“Now, they are doing exactly what the APC is doing because they are one and the same party. For me, personally, I don’t believe that both the APC and the PDP are in a position to sort out the ills of our country namely disunity, insecurity, lack of opportunities, and economic development.
“Instead, I am looking at the possibility of good Nigerians coming together to identify the problems of the country with a view to proffering solutions to them.
“Anyone who wants to join this platform should be a person who subscribes to the unity of the country.
“We want to recruit more Nigerians to start looking at that because the PDP and APC are no-go areas because they have no desire to sort out Nigeria’s problems to create a country of our dream,” Galadima said.
