Broadway Actor, Nick Cordero Wakes Up From Coma After Leg Amputation

2 Min Read

Broadway star Nick Cordero, who has been battling coronavirus for more than a month, has woken up from a medically induced coma.

Cordero’s wife Amanda Kloots, who has been sharing health updates about her husband, took to Instagram to share the good news.

She said: “Guys we might have to change our hashtag. Nick, dada, is awake!

“Finally confirmed after two days of, ‘Is he doing this?’ You get so excited, the nurses are like, ‘We think this is happening.’ The doctor confirmed today that, Yep, I think Nick is awake.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God,”

Kloots said that Cordero is now able to follow commands and is barely able to open his eyes because of the coronavirus related illness.

Kloots said the first signs of his brain awakening came through on Mother’s Day as a gift.

“He’s started following commands, which was a huge deal,” Kloots told GMA.

“If he answered a question with a yes, he looks up, and a no, he looks down. And so to finally hear the doctor say, we’re seeing these early, early signs, but I think it’s happening was a huge sigh of relief.” She added.

Cordero first went to the emergency room in late March for what he believed was pneumonia. He was hospitalized and later tested positive for coronavirus, the respiratory illness caused by the virus, and was put into a medically induced coma to help his breathing.

In late April, Cordero had his right leg amputated after blood thinners used to help with clotting caused blood pressure issues and internal bleeding.

Also, his lungs were “severely damaged,” she explained.
