Brescia striker Mario Balotelli has been at the centre of racist abuse in the past and was at the end of another incident in the match against Lazio on Sunday. This time it was the travelling Lazio fans at Brescia’s home, the Stadio Mario Rigamonti that allegedly abused “Super Mario.”
Balotelli took to his Instagram handle to express his feelings.
“Lazio fans present at the stadium today, shame on you,”
he wrote, with the hashtag #saynotoracism.
Balotelli, 29, was at the end of racist abuse back in November 2019 in a match against Hellas Verona, on that occasion, the Italian striker threatened to walk off the pitch.
It’s been a bit of a sweet and sour career for the bullish Italian target-man who was in Manchester City, Liverpool, Inter Milan and now Brescia. Highly volatile and temperamental traits that have often combined get him in the red books of referees for his reactions more than actual fouls.
Although Lazio ended up winning the match, “Super Mario” gave a good account of himself with a goal.
The 6.2ft striker has 6 goals, has 0 assists and has played a total of 1636 minutes this season.
