Hajiya Jummai died in the early hours of Sunday morning after contracting an undisclosed illness.

A family source who spoke to Tribune Online correspondent, on the condition of anonymity said, Jummai just returned to Nigeria after taking a trip to India to get proper medical treatment. After her treatment, Indian Doctors advised she returned home to rest.

However, the Octogenarian died before she could return to Bauchi. She died in Lagos on Sunday morning.

“But unfortunately in the early hours of Sunday the illness relapsed and she went into coma but could not be revived as she died in the process,” the source said.

Hajiya Jummai was the only surviving wife of Nigeria’s Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
