Seven people have been left dread in a clash between cult groups in Calabar, Cross River state. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incidents, on Tuesday, October 22.
Ugbo stated that the incident occurred at Okundi, Boki Local government area of the state after a youth was killed on Monday night and several houses and property were burnt.
A source who pleaded for anonymity said the cultists allegedly camped at Apostolic Church in Okundi, close to Boki Boys’ Secondary School and on Monday night, they killed their first victim, Joseph Bukie Bankong, who allegedly opposed activities of cultists in the community.

The source said: “The killing of Bankong made the entire community to rise up against suspected cult members. In the process, Alphonsus Etta Ewung, Otu Agbor Edum, and Chief Paulinus Otu’s son, among others, were killed.”
Earlier, The Herald reported that tragedy struck in Rumuosi, the Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday after officers attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad began to shoot sporadically at some youths during a burial procession.
The residents had gone to retrieve the body of one Aleruchi Woko who was also shot dead by an Army personnel when the youths staged a protest on the bad road infrastructure in their community, last November.
However, they became unruly and began to harass shop owners with machetes and steal from them.
