BREAKING: NYSC Shuts Orientation Camps Nationwide Over Coronavirus

2 Min Read

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shut down all orientation camps in the country over fears of coronavirus.

The decision was implemented Wednesday morning.

Recall that 2020 Batch A Stream 1 corps members commenced their three-week orientation programme on March 10 and were expected to be in camp until March 31.

But it was learnt that about a week after commencement of the camp, the corps members will be getting their letters of posting to their places of primary assignment (PPA).

The move by the NYSC authorities is believed to be aimed at preventing coronavirus outbreak in the camps.

The Lagos State NYSC Coordinator, Eddy Megwa, informed corps members of the decision this morning, urging them to leave the camp as early as possible.

This is as Nigeria recorded its third case of the global pandemic on Tuesday. The patient, a 30-year-old lady, had returned from the United Kingdom on March 13, the Lagos State Government announced.

The Federal Government had also banned foreign trips for all public and civil servants.

The Presidential Task Force on Coronavirus announced the decision after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

Globally, 198,727 cases have been recorded with 7,989 fatalities while 82,779 have recovered so far.
